Arpád Soltész

He was born in 1969 in Košice as a class enemy of the communist regime. After graduating from textile secondary school, he emigrated to Germany, and returned after the regime change in 1990. He started translation studies but did not complete his degree because he switched to journalism during the Vladimir Mečiar rule. He worked as an investigative journalist in several national media outlets and later focused on political reporting at the TV JOJ tv station. After the murder of journalist Ján Kuciak, he co-founded and ran the Ján Kuciak Investigative Centre for two years. He wrote four successful novels – Mäso. Vtedy na východe (Flesh. Once Upon a Time in the East), Sviňa (The Swine),Hnev (Anger) and Zlodej (The Thief), which revealed the links between politics, business, police and the underworld. Two of them were made into films. After the last Slovak elections, he moved to Prague, where he has lived since.
