Zyta Rudzka

Polish writer, playwright and screenwriter, trained as a psychologist. Her novel Ten się śmieje, kto ma zęby, translated by Alžběta Knappová, was published in Czech and won the Nike Literary Award. The story of Wera, a men’s hairdresser who wanders through Warsaw trying to raise funds for her husband’s funeral, is characterised, like all of Rudzka’s prose, by unconventional, original language that rhythmizes the heroine’s inner monologue. Critics have also praised Zyta Rudzka for her linguistic virtuosity and precision. She has won the Gdynia Literary Prize, the Gdynia Drama Award and the Poznań Literary Prize. Her work has been translated into German, French, English, Italian and Japanese.
