Guest of the book fair
Sabine Scholl studied history, German and theatre studies in Vienna. She has taught at universities in Portugal, the USA and Japan, and after returning to the German-speaking world she taught creative writing in Leipzig, Berlin and Vienna, where she has been living permanently since 2019. Her genre-diverse work focuses on themes of transnational literature, femininity and motherhood, fashion and travel, and she also explores the phenomenon of memory and literarized history in essay and novel form. Her most recent novel, Transit Lissabon (2024), deals with the exile of German-speaking intellectuals during the Second World War; the novel‘s characters have their real-life antecedents in figures from European history.
