Austria
Guest of the book fair
Stefanie Sargnagel studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. After interrupting her studies, she worked for four years in a call centre and started publishing her drawings and short texts on social media, later in a book (Statusmeldungen; 2017). Since 2016, after her success in the Ingeborg Bachmann Prize competition, she has been working as a freelance author. Her auto-fiction novels Dicht (2020) and Iowa (2023) have become bestsellers – the unconventional Austrian author stands out for her sharp humour, laconic style and uncompromising perspective. The novel Iowa. Ein Ausflug nach Amerika was longlisted for the German Book Prize 2024.
