                            An award-winning author whose works (ten novels, two books of nonfiction, a volume of short stories, two plays, a biography and a dictionary) have been translated into thirteen languages (her American publisher is Other Press, Suhrkamp in Germany). In the 1970s and 1980s she studied comparative literature in the United States. Then she moved to Barcelona, where she writes for El Pais; she also writes for Lit Hub, CounterPunch and other magazines. As a translator of literature – including the writing of Havel, Kundera, Hrabal, Hasek – Zgustova is credited with bringing major twentieth-century Czech writers into Spain. She was awarded several important prizes for her translations, both in Spain and in the Czech Republic. Her latest novel is I’m Milena from Prague.
